Co-Founder & Chief Technology Officer at Metta Space


This week we are bringing to you another impressive founder. She’s part of a team of two women founders and they are going to change how sexual harassments are reported in the workplace.

I enjoyed reading her answers to our questions because you can tell that she’s a go getter who knows what she wants. With those personality traits, she’s almost guaranteed to succeed.

Where are you from?

Born in Plymouth, grew up in Paris and now living full time in Madrid.

Tell us about you (background info)?

I'm the co-founder and CTO of Metta Space. I wasn't always technical, I started my professional life wanting to work in Politics, specifically in Foreign Affairs and Intelligence. Post-Cambridge Analytica and Brexit, I realised that I was lacking the hard skills needed to grasp the impact of data analytics on our political systems today. I took up coding alongside a Masters in Data Science where I fell in love with Natural Language Processing (NLP) as it bridged together my old passion for reading and writing with coding.

Why are you starting this business?

My co-founder, Helena, and I started Metta Space in response to our increased awareness about the prevalence of sexual harassment at work. It was a classic #metoo moment for us as once we got the conversation going, more and more people started bravely speaking up about their own experiences. From this initial research, we discovered that 60% of women and 1/3 of all men had experienced sexual harassment at work. Statistics that prove that sexual harassment isn't an extraordinary occurrence, rather it's one that has been normalised and occurs to a majority of people. In parallel to speaking to individuals, we asked companies how they were dealing with reports. We found gross discrepancies between our own research and how many cases were being reported - 99.8% of all sexual harassment cases go unreported and negative impacts such as decreases in productivity and increases in absenteeism were not being linked back to sexual harassment. That's why we chose to take a data-driven path that would be proactive and preventative to eradicating sexual harassment at work.

Please provide us with some information about your business. (description, business model, etc.)

We're B2B and monthly subscription based with personalised packages for each company. We're very conscious that each companies needs are unique, especially on a topic as sensitive as that of sexual harassment. Our aim is to be proactive in response to sexual harassment cases with an employee reporting application with the choice of anonymity while on the company side we have a case management system to ensure that reports are managed and resolved. Our data-driven approach doesn't stop there, we've added deep tech to detect sexual harassment occurring in real-time in written communications with an NLP algorithm that ensures we are both proactive and preventative.

What stage are you in right now?

We're in the final stages of product development so it's a very exciting time for us. Made possible by our amazing angel investors.

What are you looking for at this stage for your business?

As we onboard our first customers, we're looking for champions in companies to speak up about sexual harassment. Feel free to reach out and connect!
